How to obtain fresh water from sea water?
It may be obtained through two methods: distillation or reverse osmosis.

Distillation separates the water from the salt by heating the solution as it may be observed below. The sea water is heated in a series of coiled pipes and then introduced into a partially evacuated chamber. Under reduced pressure some of the water boils instantly. The water vapour is condensed by contact with cold water pipes that carry the sea water. The heat released by the water is used to preheat more sea water.

In reverse osmosis it is possible to observe the movement of water from high concentration to a lower concentrarion, in order words from a pure to a less pure solution passing through a permeable membrane. The most positive aspect about this option is that it requires less energy than distillation.
